Washington (AFP) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will visit France, Germany and Portugal next week to hold high-level talks on the global economy and financial system, the Treasury Department said Monday.

Lew will travel to Europe on Monday next week for discussions “with his international counterparts on economic developments in Europe and policies to boost global growth and promote financial stability,” the department said in a statement.

Lew will arrive in Paris on Tuesday for meetings with French President Francois Hollande and Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici.

He will hold talks in Berlin on Wednesday with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble.

Later that day, the U.S. Treasury chief will travel to Lisbon for meetings with Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho, Deputy Prime Minister Paulo Portas and Finance Minister Maria Luis Albuquerque.

Portugal is one of the three eurozone countries currently receiving international financial assistance.
